We shot “Unthinkable: The Scott Rigsby Story” on the Sony Z1U. The picture is 1920x1080 shot at 60
frames interlaced. We’ve used this camera for almost all of our “documentary” type of shooting. It’s picture quality has kept us happy!  As far as other equipment, we used a Sennheiser “directional mic” hovered directly above Scott in the studio. We shot “M.O.S.” (without sound) on location (outside).

In the studio we used a few different light sources. We mounted to the rack in the studio for our “back” and “key” lights and used a light kit for “fill.” Just a simple lighting scheme for a very simple interview set up. We wanted to shoot this very clean and crisp... almost blowing the whites out. We felt that Scott’s story matched this emotionally. “He had legs, then he didn’t... he didn’t run triathlons, then he did.” It seemed pretty straight forward!

On October 13, 2007 Scott became the first Double Amputee to cross the finish line at Kona.

On February 1st Scott Rigsby arrived at Irvine Studios. He walked in and sat down, dangling his prosthetic legs from the interview chair. As he started to tell his story it was hard to remember that he was human. We were thinking: this guy

Scott was in a car accident at 19 years old. He lost his first leg in the days to follow. Ten years later, he decided (on his own will) to take the other one off. It had been a medical problem for years, resulting in surgery after surgery and causing much pain.   After the second leg came off, he searched for purpose. He prayed a simple prayer “God, if you open doors, I will run through them.”

One week later, Scott got the call. He was reading “Runner’s World” magazine when his eye caught a story about a young woman who had completed the Ironman with one prosthetic leg. The story of how he went from “never running more than a mile on prosthetics” to Ironman, is a truly inspirational one. This is one of those “you should just watch the film kinda things.”

ran the Hawaiian Ironman in Kona on prosthetic legs... he’s superman. But his story told differently. His story gave all the credit to his Lord and savior Jesus Christ. We had the pleasure of shooting it.
